Sleeping Beauty is a classic fairy tale. The classic was firstly published in the set “Tales of Mother Goose” by Charles Perrault in the year 1697. The version of Charles Perrault is more famous but it was in the Pentamerore by Giambattista Balile and was published in the year 1964. The most famous Sleeping beauty is the Walt Disney animated film in the English world and it was released in the year 1959. There are two parts in the basic element of Perrualts narrative.

Sleeping beauty is a love story which includes a beautiful princess and a handsome prince. At the inauguration of the long wished princess fairies are invited as Godmothers where they bless her with various precious gifts which include beauty, wit and musical talent and there by a wicked fairy curses the princess as her gift that the princess on reaching her adulthood would prink her finger on a spindle and die. A nice fairy who is unable to completely reverse the spell say that she will be asleep for hundred years and until she is been kissed by a prince and true love’s first kiss. The king bans all spindles and not even one spindle is allowed in his kingdom. When the princess reaches the age of sixteen she sees an old women spinning in the tower and asks her of she can do it because she had not done that in her life. The Sleeping Beauty is a ballet in an introduction and three acts, first performed in the year 1890. The music was created by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The count was completed in the year 1889, and is the second of his three ballets. The original situation was conceived by Ivan Vsevolozhsky, and is based on the Charles Perrault's La Belle au bois Dormant. The choreographer of the first production was Marius Petipa. The opening performance took place at the Mariinsky Theatre at St. Petersburg in the year 1890. The work is highly regarded as the Tchaikovsky's finest ballet score, and has become one of the traditional repertoire's most famous ballets. Tchaikovsky was reached by the Director of the Imperial Theatres in the St. Petersburg, Ivan Vsevolozhsky on 25th May in the year 1888 about a possible ballet version on the subject of the story of Undine.

It was then decided that the Charles Perrault's La Belle au bois Dormant would be the story for which Tchaikovsky shall create the music for the ballet. Tchaikovsky didn’t hesitate to accept the commission, even though he was aware that his only previous ballet, Swan Lake, met with little eagerness at that stage of his career. The choreographer was Marius Petipa, dance master of the Imperial Ballet. He wrote a very thorough list of instructions as to the musical necessities.
