Oleanna is two-character play written by David Mamet. The entire play is based on the fight and struggle of proving who is right between the two characters, a professor at a university and one of his female students who accuses him of sexually manipulating her. The chances for the professor to continue his career gets threatened by his student’s accusation. The title ‘Oleanna’ is taken from a folk song which actually relates to utopia with its escapist vision belonging to the 19th century. This play was first premiered as Mamet’s first new Back Bay Theatre production in the year 1992 in Cambridge, MassaChusettes.

The character of the professor was played by William H. Macey. He is named as John who has an insufferable character. He misuses his power over his students. The female lead character Carol is played by Rebecca Pidgeon. The part of Carol is so beautifully played by Rebecca that it has been said that it seemed as if the character was written just for her. Oleanna as said by a critic was said to have raised more arguments than any other play. It was premiered in theatre in the year 1993 in London at the Royal Court Theatre. The characters of John and Carol were played by David Suchet and Lia Williams respectively.
